Show 16 Signpost-Tuesday, May 29, 1984 Lady Tracksters Named All-Conference 1 ' ? ... r Five members of Weber State's women's track team have been named to the Mountain West Athletic Conference All-Conference Track Team. All-Conference honors were awarded to all first and second place finishers in the MWAC Track and Field Championship held last weekend at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. Weber State placed second with a team total of 122 points, just three points behind Boise State. Those named All-Conference include:Connie Washington (sophomore from Salt Lake City) -first, 200 meter dash; first, 400 meter dash; first, 4x100 relay; second, long jump; second, 4x400 relay. Shirley Kay Wilcots (freshman from Colorado Springs, Colorado) -first, 4x100 relay; second, 100 meter dash; second, 200 meter dash; second, 4x400 relay. Tammy Coombs (freshman from Ogden, Bonneville HS)-first, triple jump; first, 4x100 relay. Camille Davis (sophomore from Huntsville) -first, 800 meter run; second, 4x400 relay. Valynn Spafford (junior from Tooele, Utah) -first, 4x100 relay; second, 4x400 relay. Women's Track Coach Jim Blaisedell is on the recruiting trail now that the track season is over, and he is trying to fill some areas that he feels the team was weak in last year. His first signee is Paula Pettingale, a high jumper from Burley, Idaho. "Paula fills the void that we have in the high jump," Blaisdell said. "Her best jump of 5'8" would have tied for first at conference this year." As a sophomore, Pettingale was the Idaho state high jump champ with a jump of 5'6". She placed second in state during her junior year behind one of the top high jumpers in the nation (Lisa Burnhagen who has cleared 6-4). Her personal best jump of 5'8" this year was good enough for the runner-up spot at state behind Burnhagen. "Paula has a lot of potential because she hasn't had much coaching and still has cleared 5'8," Blaisdell said. r "Spring Game" cont'd, from page 14. David Stireman No. 2) gets off a pass in spite of heavy defensive pressure. Stireman along with Phil Cooper and Kevin Villars Signpost photoGrove Pashley are fighting for the starting quarterback position. All three will see action in the Alumni game Saturday night. Kelvin Hodrick and tight ends like Norm Haney, look for the quarterbacks to go to the air with good success against the alumni. The coaches and players are getting excited about the alumni game. The players are tired of hitting each other and are looking forward to hitting some new faces. With only a limited time to practice, it will be hard to figure out what to expect from the alumni. There will be approximately 24 players from last year's team playing for the alumni, so it could be an interesting game. Weber will not use all of their offensive or defensive sets against the alumni, as the University of Utah will have scouts filming the game. Weber opens their season against the Utes in Salt Lake on September 5, so the Wildcats don't want to give the Utes a lot to look at. The Utah game will be a big game for Weber as they have recruited many Utah players who will want to play well against the Utes.
