The awards are geared to those who have distinguished themselves in various fields at Weber State, such as academics and teaching. The program is well set up and will run very smoothly, thanks to the efforts of Scott Jensen, associate professor of theater, and the artistic director of this year's awards program. Jensen has coordinated the various departments and groups involved so that this year's production will run like clockwork. Some of the different groups involved in the program include; music, set construction, dance, costuming, and administration. Because Al Hirt is performing, the stage set will be in a jazz theme. The set was designed by theater department design student Robert Vaughn. The set is made up of plates of piano keys with pyradmic stairs in the center, backed by a Crystal Crest insignia on the backdrop. The pyradmic stairs are backed by trumpets, which are made up of plexiglass. The whole set will have a black-and-white look so the colors can be changed for different numbers. The construction of the set cost approximately $1,000 dollars. Costuming for the dance group Orchesis and the Chantonelles was designed by J. A. Hanson from the theater department, and will cost between $700 and $800. Live music will be performed at the ceremony with solos from Al Hirt and the orchestra and the jazz group Tangent Factor. "I hope that they (the people) leave with the feeling that those people really accomplished something," said Jensen. Jensen said they hope to do "everything we can to make it a smooth and dignified and purposeful ceremony." Jensen, who has been at Weber for 11 years, started working on the awards program in January of this year. Much planning and design has gone into this year's ceremony. The slides of the top five nominees are all taken by the same photographer with the same background. This years's program is expected to last one and a half hours.
