Dr. Larry W. Doman said a survey taken by Olympus Research Corp., Salt Lake City, indicated that many businesses, industries and government agencies give job preference to applicants who know a foreign language. Weber State is offering French, German and Spanish during summer quarter which begins June 21, Dr. Doman said. "Accelerated beginning courses in all three languages, along with a second-year course in Spanish and German are being offered during the summer" he said. "The accelerated courses enable the student to complete one year's study in only eight short weeks. This makes it possible for a student to start a second or third-year course during fall quarter, thus completing the Bachelor of Arts foreign language requirement in a single calendar year," Dr. Doman said. "Experience has shown that graduates of these accelerated courses may achieve a high degree of fluency and have an excellent retention rate," Dr. Doman said. Registration will be held June 20. Classwork begins June 21 and ends Aug. 12, with two, three-day weekend holidays. Further information about the courses may be obtained by phoning the WSC Foreign Language Department, 399-5941, Ext. 463. |
