Show Page 14 Signpost Sept. 28, 1973 S Square dancing becomes popular campus pastime Square Dancing is no longer associated with the barn atmosphere or hayseed get-together of past generations, rather it has developed into a complicated, sophisticated style of dancing. "Pi r Squares" is a recently formed club on campus, sponsored through the dance committee of the Activities Board, that concentrates on college age individuals single or married. Started in May of this year the club is open to anyone who has interest or experience in square dancing including faculty and staff members and young people on or off campus. Class taught Members meet every Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the Union Building and for those individuals ' who wish to learn or brush up on the steps instruction will begin Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. The "Pi r Squares" is an official member of the Ogden Area Square Dance Association which governs and promotes square dancing in the area. During the season the club will dance with other groups in Ogden and frequently with other Utah university clubs. Ballroom dancing Members will not only learn the regular square dance steps but the basic round dance steps or ballroom dancing. Bob Landon is the caller of the "Pi r Squares," Margaret Waterfall and Ray Meyers are advisors, Steve Johnson is president; Julie Taylor, treasurer; Nancy Larkens, secretary and Christi Glover is the sheriff. Cost is 50c each dancing night per person which includes refreshments. County Library slates lecture The lecture Oct. 6 at the Weber County Library "Psycho' Cybernetics" will deal with many aspects of the human mind especially as it 'relates to personality and creativity and focuses.on young people. Francis Fields, a volunteer worker and teacher of the blind will point out how "Psycho' Cybernetics" builds self confidence, self esteem, memory development and positive thinking. She will show how it rids one of worry, fear, anger, frustration, resentment and insecurity. Ms. Fields has used the theory on the blind in able to help them to accept blindness and has proven it to be successful.
