Show MARIA TERESA LOST. Spanish Cruiser Foundered iu a llcaw (i:tle :o Tjives Lost. Charleston. S. C. Nov. 7. The tug Merritt reports the loss of the cruiser Maria Teresa, raised by Constructor llobsou off San Salvador, Bahamas, November 3, iu the midst of a furious storm. The cruiser left Caimanera, Cuba, on the morning of October 30. in j tow for New York. She had passed j Cape Maysi, and started northeast I around the Bahamas. A furioue storm, j warning' of which had already been ! scut out, overtook her, and in her con-i con-i dition she was unable to weather the ! gale. The strain opened rents in her hull which had been patched to enable her to make the journey, aud she be-i be-i gan to till rapidly. The Merritt took I off Captain Harris and the crew- from j the sinking ship and she soon went ', down. The Merritt brought the eap- tain and 130 men, who will proceed ! north by rail. No lives were lost so j far as known. |
