The Illinois Central fast traiu from New Orleans to Chicago was held up and robbed two miles south of Wick-liffe, Wick-liffe, Ky. The train was flagged and when it stopped the bandits entered the cab. The fireman, J. J. Frysch, was struck on the head with the butt of a revolver aud badly hurt. The robbers, six in number, cut off the engine aud express car and ran a mile and a half to Fort Jefferson, near the Ohio. river and within sight of the Missouri shore. Here they blew open the express safe and secured all the valuables it contained, about 810,000, and crossed into . Missouri. They dropped one package containing S700 on the Kentucky side, and another package on the Missouri side, both of which have been recovered. The robbers rob-bers did not attempt to molest the passengers. |
