Show THE DIXIE FRUIT FESTIVAL AT ST GEORGE john willy the publisher of the hotel monthly chicago who with his son and air belt manager of the hotel utah were visitors to dixie at the time of the fruit festival has the following to say concerning it in the october number of the hotel monthly it was holiday in st george the dixie fruit festival was on and tha town was filled with people from the southern counties eager to show or see the best fruits from the different sections and congratulate the prize winners there was also three days of sports including roping contest horse racing baseball and foot races the fruit exhibit was superb it was held in the basement of the tabernacle the exhibits were principally of pomegranates peaches pears plums apples grapes of several kinds some of them in clusters as big as a mans head peanuts almonds both soft and hard shell walnuts watermelon cantaloupe corn on cob and dried fruits as peaches pears and apples john R walls editor of the washington county news extended courtesies we recalled to him our visit to st george of two years ago on the morning of the draft when the boys started for camp lewis and the sadness of the parting this in contrast with festival and the boys home we were served with an excellent dinner at the arrowhead hotel kept by warren cox we left st george for cedar city about 2 40 p m A mile or so out of st george there Is a most inviting swimming hole and the car was halted for half an hour for mr helf and knight to take a swim which they enjoyed hugely the arrowhead trail between st george and cedar city is greatly improved avor what it waa two yar ago it is a delightful cenec journey several miles commanding the valley el tha virgin clr |
