| Show was in thick of battle but not hit somewhere in france nov mrs A Y milne at geoage utah dear mother and all I 1 just bot two letters from you the gum also I 1 was over to tho Y M 0 A today and wrote two letters but will write again tell joe he ought to have been on the drive with me but he Is better off at home I 1 would sure like to be there here Is hoping it long before I 1 am back well seeing as you want to know what part ot france I 1 am in it is what you call the argonne forest this is where the worst haht has been since the war began we stopped right at the mouse river so you can tell where we have been there is a fine in the paper about the 77 division we have been in the lines longer than any other two divisions but we have got a good so that Is something to be proud ot but we dian didn t much like it when we started up to the front the second time dut now we are going back I 1 would like to beat this letter home but there much chance well I 1 will tell you more about the front line when I 1 come home I 1 guess you was glad when they stopped drafting we see in the paper where they are sending them back that had not got to camp I 1 think june will be tickled but I 1 would like to have him over here in just one drive to see how he would act I 1 never felt afraid but the more I 1 went to the front the worst I 1 bated the bursting shells there was lots that hit mighty closed but none hit me but lots of mud bit me but it was soft so that waa what I 1 liked the machine guns were mighty close but that dlan t count well I 1 wish there was some ot the fellows over to see what we had to go through the officers kept the boys in good spirits and there was no yellow in them or they would have shown it on this drive well it the firing stopped we would have had to cross over the mouse river in fifteen minutes so you can think it mighty fine tor us because we were nearly all worn out our first lieutenant was trying to get ha relieved two or three days before the fight stopped well I 1 can sure eay be is a fine fellow and he treats everybody the same I 1 would have written to the rest of them but haven t got time they can read this and that will save me because we are traveling most ot the time and I 1 am give out I 1 have seen all the boys from home none are in the same company they are all sociable and fine fellows BO I 1 dont notice it BO much but it we get in a camp we will all be close together I 1 sent a cablegram about two weeks ago and thought you had got it they brought it back the other day and I 1 was disappointed because i thought you had it so I 1 never bothered so much about writing it I 1 had known that I 1 would have written this Is all I 1 can think of so will stop vivian co F infantry A E F france ws s |
