Show NOTED EXPLORER TO HEAD MOST completely EQUIPPED EX EVER SENT OUT results of inestimable value to the united states and to science ex pecked to be obtained plan conceived by admiral peary ew york an expedition to be led by captain robert A noted explorer will be sent to the polar regions next june to survey the north pole by aeroplane according to announcement no liere december by the aero of america the plan it was bald was conceived by rear admiral clobert U peary discoverer oc the pole the purpose of this expedition which it was said would be the most completely equipped ever sent out wll be to explore survey and photograph the unexplored parts of the arctic regions and establish alus existence or nonexistence non existence of land or lands in that region it also intended according to the announcement to explore the upper air and the bottom of the polar basin results of inestimable value to alie united baates and to science surely will be obtained from this expedition said the announcement which added that the club bourd raise to finance the trip the north pole has been discovered but the major part of the vora still remains to be done the announcement no states both admiral peary and captain bartlett want to do a great deal of scientific research in the polar basin of which over square miles remain unexplored and they would want to have a labom tory on the ship abee the flora and fauna from the bottom will be kept until the return of the expedition little or no data has been received from the bottom of the polar basin and no meteorological aunes have been made in the polar regions asserting tint with the co opera tion of the leading geographical and scientific bodice assured it Is planned to have the expedition leave the united state next juno the announcement no continued are sir we ks of fair weather in july and august when comparatively speaking the cold Is not extreme the plans are to have a ship go to etah about GOO miles from the north pole in june when the ice Is sufficiently broken to permit the ship to cross melville ba the ship would carry a large scap lape or land airplane for the final flight across the tap of the earth and tor exploration of tj unexplored polar regions as well as smaller planes for the scouting flights immediately upon arrival at atah a base would be established and while waiting tor the ice to break up farther north to permit alie ship to go as far as cape columbia the small sea planes would fly to cape columbia and establish a base there for the large plane which Is to be used tor the flight across the top of the w orld from cape columbia on the american side over the pole to cape Chel op the SI berlan side and for exploration over long distances for the six weeks after the middle of july when the weather conditions are best tor flying in the polar regions the large plane as well as the other planes will her put into service and the important work of the expedition will be done asserting that only one devonta of the earths surface has been accurately mapped and two thirds only mapped from dougli sketches officers of the club stated that by use of airplanes it would be possible to do in twenty beirs what would require years by usual methods |
