Show CHIEF ENGINEER he and prominent harriman man will examine route through washington county E G tilton chief engineer of the salt aake route and carl stradley one of the most trusted of the system civil engineers with arthur mcguire a well locating engineer for the salt lake route will leave this city within tho next lay or two for a preliminary survey for a possible new line for the salt lake route they will leave the former main line of the silt lake route at a point near lund and will first make a thorough investigation of the beasi B ability of a road through washington county mr stradley is familiar all of the old surveys made through that section from the maps and plats now in the possession of tho people ho has also made a gnp over at leafa a part of that county several years ago tho pirty will make an examination of the possibility of a road from somo point near lund into neton county thence down the virgin river to near st thomas nev and up the muddy river on the bouto surveyed several years ago for the moapa valley railroad company to moapa while ho definite announcement no has yet been made it is believed that the engineers will work back from moapa via the ciocho district it is also possible that while the engineers of tho bait lake route and the birnman system are working south other engineers will be sent over the pioche district and will meet them when they come from the south to moapa thit the road will not bo rebuilt through tho meadow valley wash has not jet been definitely decided an officer of the company stated this morning eliat the company was already ordering material and that just as soon as it was known which way the road was to go work would be started chief engineer tilton is still in this city and will probably male as full a report as possible on his findings between rox and caliente J dark second vice president of the road left for los angelca last night he will return to this city in about two weeks before leaving mr clarl aud finst vice dent W 11 bancroft the following statement which was made public this morning the weather conditions since the wa in the meadow valley have been such that a thorough examination of the present ano has not been possible and such an examination cannot bo made until later but as soon as the will permit the matter will over carefully by competent engineers to determine alio exact extent of the damage done and the feasibility of reconstructing the line through the canyon of the meadow valley ft ash in its former location or elsewhere in the meantime are being made on two other routes with a view to ascertaining if a satisfactory alternative is available f it is not found feasible to rebuild the ano through the meadow valley wash on an absolutely safe basis then it is possible one of the other ines being considered will bo adopted and the road constructed on ouch route |
