Show New Y Mail Service Announced For Mail To Men In Service A new "V" mail service is announced an-nounced by the post office department de-partment in cooperation with the Army and Navy departments, reports re-ports Postmaster William Brooks. This service is being inaugurated to better serve the nation's soldiers sol-diers on foreign soil. Mr. Brooks explains the services serv-ices provided for the following purposes: First To reduce the weight and bulk of mail to our armed forces abroad and thus make available space for the transportation transpor-tation more vital military material. ma-terial. Second To provide better facilities facil-ities to dispatch and handle the mail to and from our armed forces abroad, these departments have inaugurated a new service known as the "V Mail Service". This service is now available to transmit letters without inclos-ures inclos-ures both, to and from our armed forces only, outside of the continental con-tinental United States. This service serv-ice is for the exclusive benefit of our armed forces abroad, and does furnish a much better way of transmission of letters between them and their parents, relatives and friends. Those wishing to avail themselves them-selves with the special, standard, uniform and distinctive V Mail sheet, may secure them, one at a time, from the post office. These letter sheets are a combined letter let-ter and envelope, to be used on one side only, then the address on the other side, when properly folded. Because of the distinctive features fea-tures and the uniform size, this mail will receive the most preferred pre-ferred handling in every way. It is easily recognized as mail to and from our armed forces. To further expedite this V Mail destined over seas, there will be inaugurated a photographing mic-ri-filming facility in conjunction with this service. These letters will be photographed by specialized special-ized machines on 16-millimeter films, this filming will reduce this weight and bulk to approximately 3.15 per cent of their original size. This film will then be sent to its destination by the fastest way available, vessel or plane. At the destination, V Mail will be photographed and enlarged and inclosed in a special envelope and delivered to the address in the usual manner- - |
