Show Beans Are Featured As Victory Special For January Menus Rocky Mountain food merchants will feature beans as a Victory Food special during Jan. 18-23, J. - Worth Gutke, state supervisor of the U. S. Department of Agriculture's Agricul-ture's food distribution administration, adminis-tration, announced today. "Right now the use of dry, edible beans helps conserve other less plentiful foods needed for the war," Mr. Gutke said. "With an all-time record supply available avail-able this year, the amount is ample . for civilian use here at home as well as for meeting current cur-rent Lend-Lease and military requirements." re-quirements." During the period Jan. 18-23, storekeepers cooperating with the Food Distribution administration will list beans as a Vivtory Food special in store advertising and display material designed to acquaint ac-quaint more consumers with this valuable food." Since- restrictions on tin and rubber have eliminated canned beans from grocers' shelves, more beans need to be prepared in the home or made available already cooked for bulk sales through stores, Mr. Gutke believes. "Many alert retailers are now offering fresh baked beans to fill in the gap caused by the disappearance disap-pearance of the canned product. The busy housewife who cannot take the time to bake her own beans need not have her family go without this important food if her local food store has them, ready-baked for bulk sale." |
