Show Civilians Asked To Increase Food Production Increase of 10 to 30 Per Cent Is Desired In Many Staple Crops By WAYNE H3XTOX Because of the demands of war and the consequent drain on our food supply all the the civilian population is being asked to cooperate co-operate in the production of food. The govenrment is asking for an increase of 10 to 30 per cent on most food stuffs. Half of what is produced will be taken by our Army and for Lend-Lease purposes pur-poses to our Allies. This means less for the civilian population, especially in canned fruits, vegetables, veget-ables, meats, eggs and dairy products. prod-ucts. Asked To Produce Farmers are asked to produce as never before, with less machinery ma-chinery and less labor. They will be able to purchase only 20 per cent of the machinery purchased in 1941. How then, are we going to reach the production goal of 1943? Farmers must take care of the machinery they have, plan their work better and work longer long-er hous. In addition, all families living in either urban or rural centers, who have a few rods of land available, must produce their own vegetables otherwise they may not have any. Those who can, must raise a family flock of chickens, a pig, and keep a family cow. In rural areas the big per cent of the families can do this a'nd they should consider it their patriotic duty to do so. To help people who have had little or no experience, the government govern-ment has asked all high schools to conduct classes in any of eighteen production fields that may fit a community.
