Show HURRICANE Mrs. Vernet Hinton Reporter Mrs. Arthur Stratton was taken to the Iron county hospital Thursday Thurs-day for an operation and is reported re-ported improving nicely. Clair Brooks spent the week end in Hurricane with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brooks. Ruth Spend love of Cedar City spent Sunday here with her father, George I. Spendlove. William Isom came home Wednesday Wed-nesday on furlough enroute from Virginia, where he has been stationed sta-tioned to his new location Clinton Isom was a visitor in St. George Saturday. Ruth Wall of California has been in Hurricane several days visiting friends. Miss Wall previously previ-ously taught in Hurricane. The Hurricane Soldiers Mothers' club held their May meeting last Thursday. Part of the business of the meeting included re-organizing. Mrs. B. M. Jones, president; Mrs. Maggie Neilson; and Mrs. Anna Wood were the outgoing officers. of-ficers. Elected were Mrs. Kate Stout, president; Beth Spendlove, vice president; and Shirley S. Glore, secretary.-- T h e mothers bought a $50. War Bond and expect ex-pect to purchase one each month hereafter. Dwayne a n d Sherrill Neilson left last week for Boulder City to work. Mrs. Earl Englestead of Boulder City is spending the week in Hurricane. Hur-ricane. Mrs: Annie Judd of Fredonia, spent the week in Hurricane with her father, George Isom. Bessie Fish spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Verriet Hinton. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brooks and Fenton Whitney were speakers speak-ers in Sacrament meeting Sunday at Toquerville. Rex Adams left Wednesday for employment in Ogden. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Burgener and family left Wednesday for Llintah county to visit relatives. Principal Maurice Nuttall is in Salt Lake City attending school for two weeks. The soldiers are tearing down the CCC camps at Short Creek. While here they are making the quarters at the City Park. Julia and Wilma Whitney left Tuesday for Salt Lake City to get summer employment. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Webb and family left Wednesday for Salt Lake City for an extended stay. Elva Wright left Sunday for Salt Lake City. Thayne Wright, son of Mr. and and Mrs. Sam Wright, and Lora Christensen were married last Thursday. Thayne was here on furlough from the medical corpA of the U. S. military. service. A wedding reception was held Friday Fri-day evening at the home of Mrs. Edna Gibson. Mrs. Warren Cox of St. Georg,1 is guest this week of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brooks. Alvin Sanders and Bishop Stout came home Friday from the shearing shear-ing corrals. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Sanders home from Salt Lake City where they have resided for several years. Mr. Sanders has employment with the Sanders Brothers' hatchery. Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Adams of St. George were Wednesday visitors vis-itors in Hurricane. Marjorie Jean Lippold of Newberry, New-berry, Calif., is in Hurricane visiting vis-iting her mother, Mrs. George Lippold. Mrs. Cathren Riding spent last week in Delta, returning Friday. She w a s accompanied by her grandson, Tom Callister, who will visit with her. J. H. Riding came home Sunday and will remain for the week. Ben Lee left for Delta Thursday on business connected with the road to Topaz. He returned home Tuesday of this week. The Red Cross home nursing class started Tuesday afternoon under the supervision of district nurse, Mary Gray, of San Francisco. Fran-cisco. Mrs. Reber left for Tucson, Ariz., for her health, accompanied by the county nurse, Miss Uarda Knight. A soldiers' farewell party was held Monday night for Doyle Ballard, Bal-lard, Oreon Ballard and Eldean Hartley. A program was given including a talk by MOITiS Wilson; violin solo, by Gwynn Bradshaw; and a trumpet solo by Late Staheli Dancing followed Henry Graff, Mina Fuller and daughter, Berniece, and Lucy Esplin Es-plin were visitors in town Monday. |
