Show Two Local Indian Girls Enlist In WAC's The people of the Shevwit Indian reservation, Santa Clara, are represented rep-resented in another line of military mili-tary service with the recent enlistment en-listment of two of their girls in the WAC's. The first to join was Miss Erlene Myers, daughter of James and Serena Myers. She en-: en-: listed two months ago in San Francisco where she was employed em-ployed in the shipyards. Enlisting two weeks ago was Miss Lilly Tillohash, daughter of Tony and Bessie Simon Tillohash. She is now located at Fort Des Moines, la., for her basic training. In her first letter home she re-Dorted re-Dorted she was verv haDnv with her assignment. Before entering the service she was employed for nine months at Hill Field at airplane air-plane repair maintenance work. As a small child she attended school five years in Stewart, Nev., followed by two years in St. George and five years at Sherman Institute, Riverside, Calif., where she majored in business. Her mother has had good education edu-cation and her father is a graduate gradu-ate of Carlisle. During his five years there he was one of "Pop" Warner's famous Redskins, . who were honored at the White House by Pres. Theodore R.oosevelt. While there he also assisted the American Institute of Pwesearch, as interpreter of the Shoshone. Paiute and other Indian legends and languages. Both he and Mrs. Tillohash are proud of their daughter's enlistment with the WACs. |
