Show Legion Promises One of Best Armistice Day Programs In Many Years Committee Plans Events Of Interest To All Ages and Groups One of the biggest and best Armistice Arm-istice Day programs to be presented pre-sented in years is rounding into shape for next Thursday, Armistice Armis-tice Day, reports the publicity committee of the American Legion, Leg-ion, who is in charge of the day's events. Changes in the time of the forenoon events have been made, otherwise the program is reported to be as previously announced. an-nounced. Parade Time Changed The time for the public parade is changed from 9:30 to 10:30 a. m., and the public meeting will De held at 11:15 a. m., in the St. George Recreation hall. Schools are closing for the program, pro-gram, and a free picture show is being provided at the Wads-worth Wads-worth theatre for all Elementary school children immediately following fol-lowing the parade. This will make possible the adult audience for the public program, which might have little appeal for the smaller children. child-ren. In the interest of the parade all entries are especially requested to be at their assigned places at 10:15 a.m., so that the parade may start off at 10:30 promptly. Also, all service men of the present pres-ent war who are home on furlough fur-lough are requested to assemble at the R. M. Reber building at 10:15 and join in the events as special guests of the Legion. The program for the public meeting will include Advance of the Colors and "Pledge To the Flag", followed by congregational singing of the "Star-Spangled Banner", with the Dixie college band accompanying; prayer, by the Auxiliary Chaplain, Mrs. Guy Hafen; greeting by Auxiliary president, pres-ident, Mrs. Charles Pickett; oration, ora-tion, Dixie college student; vocal solo, "The American Prayer", Mrs. Mack G. Jackson, accompanied by Mrs. Earl J. Bleak; oration, Dixie college student; pageant, "Utah Serves", directed by Mrs. Howard Judd and Mrs. Roy Williams, assisted as-sisted by Mrs. Mae A. Pace and Mrs. Evan S. Pickett; band numbers num-bers directed by Prof Earl J. Bleak; award to oration winner; retirement of Colors; benediction by the Chaplain. During the pageant the Silver Star awarded to Lieut. Garth B. Cottam for heroic service will be presented to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James F. Cottam of Veyo, who will be special guests.. Mr. and Mrs. Cottam had the privilege of choosing the time and place of receiving this award and requested re-quested that it be made at the Armistice Day program through the Lester Keate Post No. 90, American Legion, who are honored hon-ored to respond. Rodeo Program A special feature of the afternoon after-noon program will be the rodeo event which starts at 2:30 p.m., with E. M. McArthur, general chairman and arena director of this event. His past experience in this work gives the public assurance as-surance that an entertaining program pro-gram will be provided. Cattle for the rodeo will be furnished by Lindau Foremasler and Rex Frci. The schedule for the rodeo requires re-quires that all contestants must register at the Legion hall on upper main street between the hours of. 12 noon and 2 p.m. Later entries will be impossible. Fees for entries are: Calf rop-inf, rop-inf, $2.00 per man; team tying, $3.00 per team; wild cow milking, $3.00 per team; steer riding, $1.50 per rider; wild horse riding, $1.50 per rider. Announcer for the events will be Rulon A. Snow. National association rules and regulations will be followed throughout the rodeo events, says Chairman McArthur. In the evening there will be a public dance in the St. George Racreation hall, at regular prices. |
