Show Democrats Make Clean Sweep With Exception of Mayor's Race Close Kaee Develops for Mayor's Office With D. C. Watson Re-EIccted P The Democrats again demonstrated demon-strated their voting power in St. George when they swept a full ticket into office with the exception ex-ception of one candidate the Mayor. With many capable men to choose from on all three tickets, most prognosticators had felt that men would be elected from all three tickets, but those who counted the ballots say that there were too many who voted a straight Democratic ticket, or who waivered from it only slightly. Mayor D. C. Watson, Citizen Party candidates, was the lone exception, being re-elected to the position he has held for two terms. Mayoral ity Race Close The main fight centered around the Mayoralty race, with Mayor Watson taking first with 339 votes, cast in his favor; Wesley A. Nelson, Democrat, second with 297 and Albert E. Miller, Republican, Re-publican, third with 235. With three candidates in the field, those who follow politics point out that it is unusual for all three candidates candi-dates to poll as evenly. Mrs. Annie M. Webb, Democratic Demo-cratic candidate for re-election to the treasurer's office, had the most votes cast for her of any of the candidates. A total of 633 voters cast their votes in her favor. Second in number of votes was E. Eric Snow, 2-year councilman coun-cilman candidates for re-election on the Democratic ticket, who received re-ceived 554 votes. He was closely followed by H. Roy Bentley, Democratic Dem-ocratic candidate for re-election to the office of clerk and recorder. A complete report of the votes cast of the various candidates in the four districts is not available avail-able as the News goes to press. The votes will be checked by the City Council on Saturday and (Continued on page eight) f 1 Election Results (Continued from first page) the complete returns will be published pub-lished in next week's issue of the News.
