Show Red Cross Organization Plans Work for Women of This Section Recently several women in the community have been heard to express a wish that they were nearer a defense area so that they might lend a hand to the variety of work to be done under the growing defense program. These expressions have found their way to the local Red Cross officers offi-cers who hope to enroll at an early date the help of women who can spare time and would like to give assistance. Recently, Mrs. T. M. Jones, chairman of the knitting and sewing service for the county chapter of the Red Cross, received re-ceived an assignment of 400 kit bags for the soldiers for overseas service. This is in addition to the Army articles to be knitted, sweaters, scarfs, hose and other items, and they should be rushed to completion as early as possible. In order to facilitate the work, the committee has obtained the continued cooperation of the Woodward high home economics department for two afternoons of each week. On Wednesday and Thursday each week, from 5 to 6 p. m., the room will be open to those who can spare time to help with this work. Sewing machines ma-chines are available and women will lie present to give out the material and the needed instructions instruc-tions for making these kit bags, which are already cut out and need only to be stitched up and fitted with the 12 or 15 items which (Continued on page eight) Red Cross Work (Continued from first page) they are fixed to hold. Help of every woman who can spare an hour will be greatly appreciated, say the committee members. They will also appreciate the kindly cooperation of those who know of this opportunity in getting the information to their neighbor women and friends, so that the 400 kit bags may be completed and shipped as soon as possible. |
