H. B. Askew, chief clerk of railway rail-way mail service was over the lines during the day, checking conditions and service over this Star Route. Due to war-time conditions and frequent late arrivals of trains, it will be necessary to upset the present Star Route schedule. Resulting Re-sulting from the meeting held with Mr. Askew, four possible schedules were suggested and discussed. dis-cussed. After a thorough analysis, the group of citizens approved of and agreed to accept the following follow-ing schedule, which awaits official offi-cial order before being put into operation : Mail to leave Cedar City daily at 3:30 p.m., arriving in St. George 2 hours later, or about 6 p.m.; continues to Hurricane, where it will stay overnight, then continue on to Kanab the next morning, returning to Hurricane in the evening, but not connecting with the St. George-Cedar City mail, which leaves Hurricane at 6 a. m., on return trip to Cedar City. Mail will leave St. George daily at 6:30 a.m., to connect with outgoing mail from Cedar City by train at 10:30 a. m. This ohange will save the present delay de-lay ' with mail coming into St. George, one full day late. Mail going north will arrive in Salt Lake City the evening of the day it leaves St. George, but in all probability too late for delivery de-livery until the next morning. A full schedule of mails will be furnished the News when the order for the change of present schedules is received. In case the foregoing schedule is approved, it with be impossible to give window service after 6 p. m. |
