Show Receives Citation SSgt. Karl E. Burgess, son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Burgess of St. George was recently given a special spec-ial citation for his outstanding achievements on Luzon from Jan. 9 to Feb. 10, 1945. The citation reads: "SSgt. Burgess planned, trained and supervised the equipment of his platoon for an assault operation opera-tion and after landing, his platoon constructed 12 bridges on the main supply road of the division from Lingayen Gulf to Clark Field. "On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of February, 1945, he - directed his platoon in the removal of many aerial bombs emplaced as mines, and numerous anti-personnel mines, in such an outstanding manner that the area was cleared of the obstacles without accident or injury. In a position normally occupied by an officer, SSgt. Burgess, by intelligent planning and excellent direction, led his platoon in a superior manner during dur-ing all assigned combat engineer missions." Sgt. Burgess left with the 115th Engineers in March, 1941, was home ten days in September, 1942 and has since been overseas. |
