Show Public Assistance And Welfare Program To Cost State 10 Million Operation of the public assistance and welfare program in Utah during 1945, is expected to cost just under ten million dollars, according ac-cording to reports recently released. releas-ed. The Public Welfare Commission Commis-sion approved the estimates of expenditures of the 29 county departments on Dec. 1, which places the probable costs at. this figure. Under the Utah law, county welfare boards are required to submit estimates to the State Commission, covering the anticipated anti-cipated cost of operation of the program in their respective counties. Following Commission approval, the county commissioners, commission-ers, who determine the amount of levy necessary to raise the county's share of the cost of the program. During 1941, 1942 and 1943, the actual expenditures fell below the estimates. When this occurs, the surpluses that may accrue are carried over to reduce the amount needed for the following year. However, if estimates are too low it would be difficult to make additional ad-ditional levies, and attempts are made to avoid this situation. The estimated amount needed for assistance payments and for administration in Washington county for 1945 was set at $217,157.00 reports Vernon Worthen, Wor-then, chairman of the Washington county board of Public Welfare. Of this amount, the county is expected ex-pected to pay $32,573.55. |
