Show Mrs. Reed Blake Lists Activities of Red Cross In National Defense By MRS. REED BLAKE The following numbered paragraphs para-graphs gives four explanations of the activities of the Red Cross in in regards to the National Defense De-fense program: 1. The Red Cross maintains trained persons in every Army and Navy station to handle personal problems of the men; makes loans to them; in emergency conducts investigations required by military authorities on cases, where emergency emerg-ency furloughs are asked for, etc. This is done through the "Home Service" department (one is stationed sta-tioned in every county). 2. Gives assistance to family of every man in emergency; handles investigation of home conditions required by military authorities; helps to clear claims for compensation, compen-sation, etc. 3. Red Cross medical social workers are stationed at every Army and Navy base hospital that secure social data' needed by physicians; phy-sicians; keep families informed of men's progress when ill and conducts con-ducts recreational work for con-valescants. con-valescants. 4- The Red Cross enrolled 10,000 nurses for service in Army and Navy hospitals last year and must furnish 4,000 more nurses this year. These responsibilties belong to every patriotic American; every citizen can participate in this very necessary program by enrolling in the Red Cross this year. |
