Show Increases In ; Enrollment At College Reported Increase Noticeable In Outside Communities; Hurricane Shows Fine List The first two days of registration registra-tion show a substantial Increase in. enrollment in both divisions of the Dixie Junior College. In The upper, or college, division there is particularly a marked increase outside of St. George, with Hurricane Hur-ricane in the lead. The enroiirr.ent from St. George shows a decrease over last year. In the lower, or hip-h srhnnl division which con sists largely of local students, a large percentage of eligible students stu-dents have completed registration. Registration of upper division students took place Tuesday, while,-' that of the lower division was Wednesday. Registration will continue con-tinue in both divisions after school hours until all are cared for. Classes started Thursday morning. Present Violinist S Arrangements have been rr.ade by the college to bring in Ltona Flood, brilliant young violinist, for a concert presentation the latter part of October. This will not be a lyceum number, but a special mim-her mim-her made possible by the fact that Miss Flood will be passing through St. George at that time. Miss Flood has pust completed a tour of Europe, and is making her first tour of America this fall. Critics state that she has a great future in store, and European papers write glowing articles about her. She is particularly adept in producing beautiful tones on the violin. Those who enjoyed the piano work of Cherniavsky last year will equally enjoy this charming personality, as she is one of the world's best. Detailed announce ments of her appearance will be I made Iptor.. . The college faculty enjoyed their- : initial social of the year Wednes- day evening on the Sugar Loaf. Social games were played, after which melons were served. Miss Peters, the only new teacher for the year, was duly initiated and made acquainted with the rest of the group. First Assembly The first college assembly will be held in the auditorium Friday-morning Friday-morning at ten. The public is cordially invited to attend. The new ventilating system given by the senior class will be in operation, opera-tion, so that the program may be listened to in comfort. Orientation will feature the program. pro-gram. All of the school songs will be presented and President B-Glen B-Glen Smith will give the address of welcome to the students. All faculty members will be introduced, introduc-ed, and special musical numbers and readings will be presented by students and alumni. |
