Show Dixie Swamps Westminster Here 25-0 To Retain J. C. League Leadership Dixie Line Shows Power In Holding On One-Yard One-Yard Line In First Quarter Dixie college, rated by many as the underdog before the tilt with Westminster last Friday, again showed they have what it takes by winning from the northerners 25-0. The Flyers showed better tackl-j tackl-j ing and blocking than heretofore, and their drive through the light-I light-I er Parson line almost became a habit throughout the game. The Parsons kicked off, and the Flyers tried a short forward pass on the first play. It was intercepted, in-tercepted, and before the first quarter was ended Westminster had carried the ball to the one-yard one-yard line. It looked like a sure touchdown, but the Dixie line not only held, but threw the Parsons for a loss of several yards. The first quarter, except for this excellent ex-cellent Dixie defense, was all Westminster. Keith Calioon passed to Doyle Sampson for the first score for Dixie, well in the second quarter. In the third quarter Bennett romped off his own right tackle for 25 yards and a score. Lee Williams made a 2-yard buck to make the final play of the second touchdown in the third quarter. Bennett kicked the extra point. Lowell Terry, substituting for Williams made the final play for the fourth Dixie touchdown. This came in the final quarter. The officials were: Blake, referee; ref-eree; Ronnow, umpire; Cook, head linesman. The win was the third for Dixie in conference play. She has one more league contest on the schedule, that with B. A. C. at Cedar City next week. She will (Continued on page five) Dixie Wallops Parsons (Continued from first page) later play a non-conference game with B. A. C. at Dixie. The relative scores show that these teams are closely grouped. It Dixie can win from B. A. C. next week, she is assured with at feast a tie for the conference honors. Besides Dixie and Weber, Albion Al-bion is the only other undefeated team. She has won from Boise and Ricks. However, she defeated Ricks by a margin only slightly more impressive than did Westminster. West-minster. On the other hand Boise defeated Carbon 21-0. while Dixie won from Carbon only 19-6. Dixie One of pyst Dixie's success to date shows she has one of the best teams in the league. Weber is rated by critics as tops, though she has one but one game, that with Mesa, the latter tripping B. A. C. 6-0 at Grand Junction last week. |
