They have been absent 10 days making the trip out via Denver and returning over the northern route via Arkansas, Wyoming and Idaho. While absent they visited Independence, Nauvoo and many other points enroute made memorable by the historic trek of the Mormons. Mr. and Mrs. Evan Cottam and son motored to Minersville to spend Sunday with Mrs. Cottam's parents. Mrs. Bud Seegmiller was hostess hos-tess Wednesday to the Bridge ettes. Mrs. Willard Milne won high score and Mrs. Mack Cran-dall, Cran-dall, second place. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Milne and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Milne and children were Sunday visitors from Cedar City at the home of their mother, Mrs. Alice W. James Andrus announces that Rex Delos Terry, son of Mrs. Bessie Terry has just received re-ceived his call to the Spanish-American Spanish-American mission of the L.D.S. church. According to plans he will leave earlv in September. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Arns were St. George visitors over Sunday. Sun-day. Mrs. G. M. Spilsbury of Toquer-ville Toquer-ville is visiting in St. George at the home of her daughter, Mrs. K. M. Cannon on her way home from the coast where she has spent the winter with other children. chil-dren. Mrs. Charles Hansen and sons, Clair and Kent, left Wednesday for Snowflake, Ariz., to visit relatives rela-tives and attend the graduation of Erva Andrea Hansen from the Snowflake high. Miss Anderson and her brother, Gorden, have been living with their grandparents grand-parents in Snowflake while attending at-tending school and will return to St. George with their mother. Mrs. Lyman Abbott came in from Mesquite, Nev. May 12 for medical care. Mrs. Charles Warmham of Beaver underwent surgery in the local hospital May 12. Mrs. Byron Taylor was rushed to the hospital Wednesday for major surgery. C. L. Whipple of Mt. Trumbull, Ariz., has been a medical patient at the local hospital since May 12. Mis Pearl Whicker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Whicker, Delta, Utah, has been awarded a scholarship to the Dixie junior college for 1940-41. - Have a good time at the Alumni Banquet Saturday evening, then enjoy the dance afterward. M16C Mr. and Mrs. Frazier Curtis of La Jolla, Calif, were St. George visitors Monday enroute through the state. Mrs. Frazier states she made many friends among the members of Utah's 145th while they were stationed at Camp Kearney and was full of praise for these Utah boys. She evidenced evidenc-ed keen interest in this city and its historic background and buildings. Lynn Atkinson, accompanied by Waldo Brooks visited briefly in St. Geoi-ge Saturday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. George Brooks on their way with friends who were making a business trip to Kanab. Mr. Atkinson reported that Waldo entered the athletic meet of the two largest Los Angeles high schools Last Friday and made six feet in the high jump, which is nearly eight inches above his own height. His opponent op-ponent topped him by one inch to win the day's honors. Waldo represented the Romans in the two school meet. Miss Meta Spence and Miss Clara Neilson united last Thursday Thurs-day evening as hostesses to a group of associates for a party at the home of Mrs. Walter F. Smith. Lunch was served to 16 Mrs. Jack Longson and son, Keith of Salt Lake City who have been visiting the past two weeks with their mother, Mrs. Lorin A. Little, were joined on Saturday by Mr. Longson, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Longson, who stayed over Monday, Mrs. Longson and Keith returning with them. On Sunday two car loads, including the Longsons, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pickett, Mrs. Olive Hirschi, Mrs. Harold Bunting and Glenna Pickett, . motored to Boulder Dam. On their return Sunday evening they were the guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Esmond Hughes at Logan-dale, Logan-dale, for a chicken dinner. Miss Afton Leavitt entertained the W.S.S. club Thursday afternoon. after-noon. A light luncheon was served to the 13 members present. Mrs. Nettie Dodds was introduced to the club as a new member. Prof, and Mrs. J. K. Nicholes and son, Kelly, of Provo, motored to St. George last Thursday to attend the Honor Day program of the Dixie junior college on 'Friday; 'Fri-day; where Mr. Nicholes accepted the privilege of presenting their annual award. Another feature of their visit was the baptism in the St. George Temple of their son, who was born in St. George during dur-ing their residence here eight years ago. Their daughter, Miss Elinor Nicholes, who had been north to attend the B.-P.W. conference, con-ference, returned to Hurricane with them. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Snow left last Saturday morning on a week's vacation. Although their plans were indefinite, they thought they would go by way of Arizona to the coast. Mr. and Mrs. Jack W. Longson were special guests at a party Saturday night on the Sugar Loaf. A weinie and marshmallow roast was enjoyed. . Mrs. Longson was the former Miss Emma Squire. ' Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Mathis returned re-turned last Thursday from attending at-tending the Rotary convention in Ogden, bringing with them their daughter, Mrs. Gar Andrus and her small son, Tommy, of Salt Lake City, who will visit in St. George for two weeks. |
