Show Easter Program At Zion Park Outlined At Recent Meeting Of Group Preliminary arrangements for the annual Easter program at Zion National Park were made at a meeting held recently. Dr. D. Elden Beck of the Dixie college, who represented the St. George district, met with representatives from Cedar City. Pictures were taken for publicity purposes and plans for the program were discussed. dis-cussed. A new site for the presentation of the pageant was chosen near the entrance of the park. It has a much larger seating capacity than the former site, and the scenery is better, according to Doctor Beck. The sacred concert which precedes pre-cedes the pageant will be given by St. George. The musical department de-partment of the college is taking the lead in arranging this concert, con-cert, but the stake choir and other organizations will assist. It is expected that some of the best vocal talent in the community will be represented. This concert will last an hour. Cedar City and the Branch Agricultural college will prepare the pageant, which will depict the great parts of Christ's life, such as the crucifixion and ascension. An extensive publicity campaign is being carried on, to secure the interest of people outside of southern Utah. Those in charge of the program expect at least 10,000 people to be in attendance. A considerable amount of advertising ad-vertising is to be done in the Utah Magazine. Sixteen color plates and many black and white reproductions will make the magazine maga-zine more valuable as a means of publicity. It is planned to send issues out previous to the Easter services. Complimentary copies will be sent to many cities on the coast, and advertising will be done in tourist circles and auto clubs. This advertising campaign is the responsibility of Harry Miller, of Salt Lake City. Mr. Miller is very enthusiatic about the program according ac-cording to Doctor Beck. He made this statement: "This is going to be one of the biggest programs we have ever undertaken to assist in promoting." Through Mr. Parker, assistant attendant of the Park, who represented re-presented Superintendent Patraw at the meeting, arrangements were made to provide for seats, trails and parking places to accommodate ac-commodate the crowd that is expected ex-pected to attend. Those in charge, plan to call a general meeting of the various interested in-terested parties next month to work out a more definite program. "This annual Easter program offers a fine opportunity for the advertising of southern Utah, the D.J.C. and the community of St. George," declared Doctor Beck. "The presentation of the concert will make a definite impression on tourists who attend, so this program pro-gram should receive the one hundred hun-dred per cent support of the community. |
