Show w The Educated Man Ramsey MacDonald is credited with saying "The educated man is a man with certain subtle spiritual qualities which make him calm in adversity, happy when alone, just in his dealings, rational and sane in the fullest meaning of the word in all affairs of life". We don't know whether the graduates of the Dixie junior college could claim all of those virtues or not. But we do believe that every student who attends the college will have gained culture and training that will be of benefit to him throughout his life. Certainly the Dixie college has graduated a great number of students who have gone on to make outstanding names for themselves in the various business and professional fields. Outstanding students at the Dixie college have carried their abilities on with them to the higher institutions of learning and have continued to be exceptional students. This would indicate that the training that they receive here must be of a high standard and that the Dixie college teachers have the knowledge and ability to impart that knowledge to those students who are capable of assimilating assimilat-ing it. One of the fine features of a small institution is that the teachers are able to give their students much more individual attention. In the larger institutions where a teacher has large classes it becomes primarily a matter of "lecturing" and it is up to the student to get his information infor-mation from these lectures and from his books. While in the smaller schools like Dixie, a student may go to his instructor individually, or at any time in class he may ask for information about the subject that is under, discussion. |
