Show Large Crowd Attends Democratic Primary Held Last Night In Courthouse J. L. Wadsworth, As Candidate For Mayor, Heads Ticket Nearly 100 citizens assembled at the county court house Wednesday Wednes-day evening for the purpose of nominating a ticket for the coming com-ing election. Ellis J. Pickett, county Democratic chairman was elected as chairman of the session ses-sion with Lloyd McArthur, clerk and the following as tellers: Leo A. Snow, A. A. Paxman, Wesley Nelson, Murray Webb, LaVerne DeSwan and Mrs. Rex Gardner. Proceeding with nominations, W. B. Mathis, J. Lawrence Wads-worth Wads-worth and Rulon A. Snow, came up for the first balloting for Mayor, with J. L. Wadsworth carrying a good majority of the 94 votes cast. During the ballot count, discussions of city business was lead by W. O. Bentley, who complimented the present commission commis-sion on their accomplishments in providing more dustless streets, on the increased water supply which makes possible beautifica-tion beautifica-tion of more yards with lawns and flowers, and urged continued efforts in this direction, that more crops and other improvements be made continuously. Nomination carried that house proceed to nominate four commissioners com-missioners for the ticket with the four receiving majority votes being declared nominees, the one carrying the highest vote being placed on the ticket for the four-year four-year term. The following were nominated: E. W. Simmons, Rulon A. Snow, John H. Schmutz, Wilford Schmutz, R. M. Reber, Vernon Worthen, Roxey Romney, Clair Terry, Gordon Mathis and Rex Frei. The first balloting placed E. W. Simmons as high point nominee, with R. M. Reber, second and Rulon A. A third re-balloting re-balloting became necessary before be-fore Clair S. Terry was finally the man chosen, the third ballot closing on a decision between Vernon Worthen and Mr. Terry. While the tellers counted the ballots, Howard Cannon as spokesman spokes-man for the Lions club assured the city of the desire of the Lions to cooperate in every way possible for the advancement and progress of the city in the eradication of pests and nuisances, and the improvement im-provement of roads, water conservation, con-servation, and in improvement of the road to the Sugar Loaf. Interesting In-teresting short addresses brought forward several items meriting public consideration. Calmness and precision of action governed the entire meeting. Miss Alice Pendleton, president of the local Business and Professional Profes-sional Women's club likewise pledged the support of that organization or-ganization to all progressive movements in the city. Mrs. Annie M. Webb and H. R. Bentley were duly nominated for the respective positions of City Treasurer and City Recorder respectively re-spectively and were declared nominees by acclamation for the respective positions on the ticket. Asked for a statement as to the proposed paving projects in the city,' present incumbent John H. Schmutz explained that the city will cooperate in paving in front of any property, preferring that full blocks be designated. They will use the N.Y.A. resident students in putting over the work wherever property owners so elect, the only cost being the furnishing of the cement or rock-asphalt, rock-asphalt, as per the preference of the citizens interested. The cement can be laid at a cost of approximately 40 cents per linear foot, and the rock-asphalt at around 24 to 25 cents per linear foot. This brings the cement at less than 50 per cent of the former for-mer paving cost. A committee consisting of Ellis lies' J. Pickett, and Ervin Milne and &s Morton Morris are to be em-powered em-powered to fill any vacancy on the ticket that may occur through .;t resignation or otherwise.
