Show Councilman Schmutz Tells How Citizens May Get Sidewalks Laid The value of paved walks is keenly appreciated when storms arrive, but the expense of paving has heretofore been in a measure prohibitive for most of the districts dis-tricts of St. George. However, it is possible this season to get sidewalks side-walks paved merely for the cost of the materials, which opens a way for many streets to be paved merely by the cooperation of property owners. Or, individuals may have pavement laid fronting their property, by providing the cost of materials, either cement, or rock-asphalt, as they prefer. The plan or project operates in this manner, states City Councilman Council-man John H. Schmutz. There is a large number of boys in St. George this winter on N.Y.A. Resident work and it is up to the community to furnish the work. The city already has a paved street supervisor and the N.Y.A. boys will gladly do the work if the materials are provided. There is positively no catch to the proposition and several have already al-ready made application for paving. Answering the question as to whether cement or rock-asphalt is preferable that must rest entirely with the individuals. However, the latter is an all-Utah all-Utah product, is very durable, easily laid and is far less expensive ex-pensive than cement. It is also ready for use as quickly as it is laid. It is believed that many will choose this material because of these factors of cost and durability, dur-ability, and also because the cost of labor replacement or repair will be an item of material difference, dif-ference, the expense being much lower in the case of rock-asphalt, the Utah product. |
