Show Hurricane ! 5Iiss 5Kda Isom Reporter Paymond Connell of El Centro. Calif, has spent the past two weeks visiting with friends and relatives at Hurricane. Special guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claudius Hirschi on Monday noon were Elder and Mrs. J. A. Widstoe. Elder and Mrs. Rueben Clark Jr., and Mrs. Albert E. Bowen, Elder and Mrs. Bennion of Salt Lake City: Mr. and Mrs. Randall Jones of Cedar City; also Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Englestead. Mr. and Mrs. Chaun-I Chaun-I cey Sandberg and Bishop Ira and j Mrs. Bradshaw. The guests from I Salt Lake City had been making a tour of the Southern Utah Parks. Guests of Miss Milda Isom on Monday evening were Misses Eletha Johnson and Velma Madsen and Alva Snow. Miss Johnson has also spent a few days vacation visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Johnson. She and Miss Madsen are leaving to attend the L.D.S. business college at Salt Lake City. They are former employees of the McGregor hospital. hos-pital. Mr. and Mrs. Lewayne Wood have spent a few days visiting friends and relatives at Hurricane. They were accompanied back home to Boulder City by Mr. Wood's brother. Cleo. Mr. and Mrs. David O. Woodbury Wood-bury and Mr. and Mrs. E. Woodbury Wood-bury were guests at the home of Mr." and Mrs. William E. Woodbury- Mrs. Mattie Ruesch spent 10 days vacation with Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Hafen at Denver, Colo. The Alice Louise Reynolds club met on Friday afternoon, August 26, at the home of Mrs Donna Sandberg. Hostesses were Mrs. I Sandberg, Eleanor Ruesch, Flora Tweedie, Veneta Wright. Their program consisted of a magazine article review given by Mrs. Eleanor Elea-nor Ruesch; a piano selection, by Mrs. Donna Sandberg, and a duet by Mrs. Audrey and Erma Stevens. Light refreshments were served Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Staheli and children and Mr. Staheli's father and mother have made a special trip to Enterprise Senator Glenn E. Snow now president of Dixie college and Newell R. Frei, were in Hurricane Friday on political and school purposes. pur-poses. De Lance Squire, former student stu-dent of the Hurricane high school, has recently been awarded, thru the recommendation of A. Karl Larson, a scholarship to the Dixie junior college. This scholarship was given through the Debating division of the school. De Lance was a member of the school's champion debating team, which won high honors at the debating tournament held at Salt Lake, last spring. He has also been a very active member in other various vari-ous school activities, among them, he was editor of the "Red and Black", the school yearbook. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Clark were week-end guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Devereaux Bowman, of Kanab. They also toured the Kiabab forest and enjoyed its beauty. On last Monday evening the members of the Hurricane Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce, through a special invitation of Mayor Wadsworth, enjoyed a refreshing swim, in the perfumed waters of the new Wadsworth swimming pool, one block north of the Star Theatre. This event marked the opening night. The "Peach Workers" of Emil J. Graff enjoyed a fine swim on Monday evening marking the final windup of this year's peach season. sea-son. All are now anxiously waiting wait-ing for next August to arrive so that they may once again enjoy the soft, fluffy fuzz as it leaves the peaches and settles on them to tickle them all day long. Mrs. Issa R. Looples has returned return-ed home from Cedar City where she has spent the past two months. She was confined to the hospital for some time; after which, while regaining her normal health, she visited with relatives. She was accompanied ac-companied home by Mr. and Mrs. George Nebeke rand daughter and Miss Vera Monqucst. all of Sigurd, Utah. Wayne Hinton, former teacher of the Hurricane high school is transferred to teach at the Dixie college and he is to be replaced by Nelson Snow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dilworth Snow of St. George. Also Miss Laura Banner will not return, a teacher to fill her vacancy va-cancy is not as yet fully decided on. Mrs. Allie Wilson has spent, the prist two weeks vacationing with friends and relatives in northern cities. The Hurricane girls were the victors in the baseball game played Saturday with the New Harmony girls. The three young ladies who represented Hurricane in welcoming welcom-ing the Governor and other officials of-ficials to the Peach Day celebration cele-bration were Misses Parharn Tweedie, Edith and Edna I'.all.ird. |
