Show Survey Being Made Of Dixie Irrigation Project By State T. H. Humpherys, state engineer, engin-eer, and E. O. Larson, district engineer, en-gineer, were in Washington county coun-ty Saturday to make an inspection of the progress being made by the parties that are surveying the proposed pro-posed Dixie irrigation project on the Virgin river and also to inspect in-spect possible small reservoir sites. The survey is being made' at the request of the United States reclamation re-clamation department by the Utah Water storage Commission. The state is standing half of the expense, ex-pense, Mr. Humpherys said. About a year will be required to make the study, according to Mr. Humpherys. A thorough study will be make of all factors before the advisability of undertaking the project can be known. Three parties have been engaged engag-ed in the work for several weeks. A group consisting of W. W. Cannon, Can-non, Frank Christopher, Francis Bowler and Walter Cannon, has been assisting in the study of water wa-ter conditions which include three groups, reservoir sites, classifying of land, and sources ot" supply from tributaries in relation to the amount of silt carried in the water. wa-ter. Mr. Humpherys pointed out that the content of the silt carried car-ried by the waters is an important factor with regard to the project on the Virgin river, since it carries car-ries more silt than the Colorado. One of the problems that confronts the state is whether the dams would be filled in to quickly to be economically feasible. |
