Legislative matters due for consideration of J the forthcoming state legislature f were discussed lengthily at this I session, following which, President James. M. Sargent of Panguitch ) announced the members of the V i j 1939 legislative .committee. L- A- Wynaught, Mayor of Mil- y ford and vice-president of the J civic club group, is to head next HI year's legislative committee, it j was announced. This important committee includes on its roster Henry H. Jones, of Helper; Thomas W. J. Jensen, of Mt. v i Pleasant; Frank G. Martineau, of Richfield; Laron S. Andrus, of St. George and Daniel Stevens of Filmore. Among the legislative measures y discussed was the "preferential J 'V law" respecting the use of Utah products. Also, special considera- 1 tion was given to the traffic prob- lems of the state, the clubs agree- VJ ing to request immediate action lp regarding loose cattle on the fs principal highways. Reports given i showed the danger of accidents N, resulting from cattle roaming the ! highways, and Utah was named as one of the three states with in- ' creasing traffic accidents. ' 1 The association pledged its sup- j il Port in the erection of a $185,000 ' ) building program at Epriham, iVI Pres. James A. Nuttall of Snow college stating the need of a new r-r'" gymnasium for Snow college along ' with remodeling of other campus buildings. Reports were also made on y j proposed highway activities and a J i cooperative advertising plan for -"" 1 assisting Nevada and California )J . in bringing San Francisco World's I ' fair visitors through scenic South- yj ern Utah was referred to the fy committee. X A banquet was held in the f J Arrowhead hotel following the . business meeting, with Laron S. Andrus, Washington county director, direc-tor, in charge of general arrange-1 arrange-1 ments. Newell R. Frei conducted the program introducing W. B. ' V Mathis, who responded for the j local division. Other speakers of i the evening were President Sar- , gent, Mr. Wynaught, Mr. Mar- ) tines and Mr. Jones. Local civic Si leaders, members of the Dixie college faculty and members of the Southern Utah Dental associa- tion were in attendance at this banquet. |
