Show Easter Pageant j Program Rounds Into Shape New Site Selected For Easter Pageant Near South Entrance To Zion Park Everything is moving forward toward the Easter Services in Zion National Park, according to Dr. D. Elden Beck, publicity chairman for St. George. The pageant, which is being produced by Cedar City, was rehearsed at the park on last Sunday. This was viewed by a group from here, who report that it is rounding into fine shape. Prior to the pageant, which takes place just at sunset, the Dixie junior college will present a concert of sacred music. This concert is under the direction of Prof. J. W. MsAllister, Prof. Earl J. Bleak and Miss Clara Wood-house. Wood-house. Approximately 150 people will take part in this concert. The Easter Pageant committee composed of representatives from the park service, church and civic organizations, have control over the pageant. Sponsoring groups provide necessary funds for costumes, cos-tumes, etc. Henry E. Petersen, Cedar City, is general chairman of the 1938 observance. Story Told The opening scene portrays the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem, The Sermon on the Mount, The Last Supper, Betrayal, Trial, Mobbing, Crucifixion, removal of the body, and visit of Mary Magdalene Mag-dalene to the tomb, following in chronological order. The spectacle ends as darkness settles with the resurrected Christ high above the crowds on the canyon wall. As spotlights play on his white robes the combined orchestra and chorouses join in the mighty "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's Messiah. New Site Selected Last year the pageant was held at the base of the famed Great White Throne, but due to the difficulty dif-ficulty in parking the thousands of cars entering the park, a new and permanent site was selected (Continued on page five) Easter Pageant Program Rounds Into Shape 1 (Continued from first page) ' for this year's presentation. The flew setting is equally as impressive impres-sive as the Great White Throne, with the sheer walls of Bridge e mountain as a background, the Watchman to the south, and the , Altar of Sacrifice across the canyon to the west. It is situated near the south entrance to the Jpark. Provision has been made to handle up to 25,000 persons this J year. The rocky slopes approaching the majestic red and white sandstone sand-stone walls of the canyon, are not i unlike the rough and sparsely . covered hills of Palestine. The i atmosphere of the canyon itself, ith its many mountains bearing Wbical and historical names, is wst conductive to a spirit of reverence. Automobile Transportation For the tourist traveling by a,ito, all roads leading into Zion National Park are open and in good condition. Ample parking space will be available in the park those who wish to arrive late I m the afternoon, just prior to the Pageant. Bus service from Cedar City to "w park and return will be available avail-able through the facilities of the Uah Parks company. Persons 'raveling by rail or interstate bus ny stop in Cedar City, from he transportation may be had 10 the park.
