Show FOR GUIDANCE IN PREPARING XMAS MAIL Cooperation of the Public Asked for the Successful Handling of Big- Holiday Increase. The successful handling of the Christmas mail is dependent principally prin-cipally upon, first, mailing sufficiently suffi-ciently early to permit handling, transportation, and delivery before Christmas day, and second, the handling and delivery or dispatch daily of all mail received that day. To accomplish this there must be a full measure of cooperation by all; first, by the public in properly preparing the matter for the mails, and then mailing it sufficiently suf-ficiently early; second, by the post office in providing the public with adequate facilities and necessary nec-essary information. To this end the following information is offered of-fered for your guidance in preparing pre-paring Christmas mail: Prepay postage fully on all mail matter. The rates are as follows: First class Letters and WTitten and sealed matter 2 cents per ounce or fraction thereof; government gov-ernment postal cards, 1 cent each; private mailing cards when not sealed in envelopes, 1 cent each. Air mail 5 cents for the first ounce and 10 cents for each ounce thereafter. Second class Newspapers, magazines maga-zines and other periodicals containing con-taining notice of second class entry, en-try, 1 cents for each two ounces. Third class Circulars and other .miscellaneous printed matter, also merchandise up to eight ounces, I'a cents for each two ounces. Fourth class (over eight ounces), oun-ces), merchandise and all other matter not in first, second or third class, according to zone. Address all matter plainly and completely in ink, giving street address, ad-dress, box number, etc., in the .lower right hand corner. Place 'sender's address in the upper left hand corner of the address side. "Tags should not be used unless Necessary, in which case a copy of the address and return should he placed inside the package, other oth-er writing should not be put inside in-side the package as this subjects 'it to the first class rate of post-age. post-age. Pack articles carefully in strong, durable containers. Wrap parcels securely but do not seal them except ex-cept when bearing a printed label reading: Contents, merchandise. Postmaster: This parcel may be opened for postal inspection if necessary; together with the name and address of the sender. Parcels may not exceed 84 inches in length and girth combined nor weigh more than 70 pounds if for delivery within the first, second, or third zones or 50 pounds in any other zone. Parcels may be marked "Do not open until Christmas", or may have inclosed in them such greetings greet-ings as Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, With Best Wishes, or names, numbers or symbols, for the purpose of description. Books may bear simple dedicatory inscriptions in-scriptions not of a personal nature. na-ture. Do not inclose letters in parcels par-cels as to do so would subject the entire parcel to the first class rate. Your letter may be secured to the outside of the package. Christmas seals and stickers should not be placed on the address ad-dress side of mail.
