Show BlGTHINESFOROiXIE is rafiii Under the caption "Big Thing Coming," Com-ing," this paper last week referred to the visit here of Thomas R. Canova of Los Angeles and gave a brief outline out-line of what he proposes doing for this section. The editor had a long talk with Mr. Canova and what here follows is the substance of what he told us. He has purchased the Richard A. Thorley ranch of 3000 acres, east of New Harmony through which the Arrowhead trail runs, and proposes in the near future to begin the platting plat-ting and laying out of a town site to be known as Liberty City. Mr. Canova comes originally from Florida and from good pioneer stock. His great-grandfather was one of the settlers of St. Augustine, .Florida, having come from Madrid in the early days of that quaint old city. He is a man who does things. His career in the great metropolitan city of Los Angeles for the past eight years has been one of success as a colonizer and home builder. It is the purpose of Mr. Canova to build up the country. Especially is he deeply interested in the senic beauty of southern Utah. The possibilities pos-sibilities of Dixie are. Mr. Canova says, very great. One of the features of his Utah project in connection with building Liberty City will be the creating of a recreational center with such features fea-tures as golf courses, tennis courts, bridle trails, rodeo field, swimming, boating, etc. A club house and lake is proposed, in the new Liberty City. For the purpose of carrying out Mr. Canova's dream he has added to his project the holdings of A. G. Anderson at Leeds and the Anderson permit from the government granting grant-ing the exclusive privilege to build a lodge on top of Pine Valley mountain. moun-tain. Mr. Canova says work on the mountain will begin within thirty days. Mr. Canova being partly of Spanish descent has decided to weave a touch of Spanish architecture throughout the entire project. The mountain top will be christened by Mr. Canova with the name Las Flores, meaning "the flowers." He further proposes to establsh a board-casting board-casting station on the mountain top and advertise southern Utah therefrom. there-from. A suggestion hits been made to Mr. Canova by Co. School Supt. W. O. Bentley that a summer training school for teachers on top of Pine Valley mountain would be quite an asset to southern Utah. Mr. Canova says he is taking this suggestion very seriously and has no doubt it will be established for the summer of 1 92 8. Leeds us a site for an all-year club center will be developed because of its scenic beauty and mild climate both winter and summer. Mr. Canova also lias an eye on SI.
