Show " ' 5 5 -J 1 SCOUTS BLINDFOLD THEIR FATHERS ON "OUT" ' Last Friday afternoon, a group of Scouts of troop one under the leadership leader-ship of Scout leaders B. Jarvis, Jr., and LeRoy Condie, left for their regular monthly over night hike, conducted con-ducted for the purpose of, passing tests, required in scout work. While away tests were passed and much progress made in scouting. On Saturday night the boys with their fathers were invited to the troop house. On arriving there the fathers were blindfolded, loaded in cars and then taken for a ride, which terminated termin-ated at the Watercress Springs wash. Here a large bonfire' was lighted and the suggestion made that this spot be donated by the city to the scouts of St. George for a permanent close-in camp. Last Friday the Scouts of troop two under Scoutmaster George T. Thompson left for their monthly overnight hike, to the Black Knolls. The time was pleasantly spent in games and scout tests. Scouting was devised by men who knew and loved boys. It is carried ):i all over the civilized world by men who know and love boys. It isn't a theory, something a grown-up thinks a boy ought to like because it is good for him. It is real boy stuff, a thoroughly workable plan, a program to which the boy takes as naturally as a fish to water, a bird to air. and that is why it is such an unqualified success. For success it is. In America alone there are half a million mil-lion Boy Scouts and there are hundreds, hun-dreds, yes. thousands, more of our lads eagerly waitin; for then twi-'fth birthday or for :i'.e estaio'shmer1 of a troop and the discovery of a seoui-mr.ster seoui-mr.ster to come in with the vest. Every boy at 'he early teen age craves action, occupation. He demands de-mands new and interesting fields to conquer. He is tired of the old humdrum ways and pursuits. It is that impulse largely that sends him to the street corner and the poolroom rather than beea't-e he ha.-, any special spec-ial predilection for tht- path of folly and evil, anud just here. Scouting has a msL'ic wain to wave. |
