Show FUNERAL SERIES FOR PAUL. WHIPPLE Funeral services for Paul L. Whipple, Whip-ple, killed in an auto accident at Los Angeles, Cal., Nov. 2 9, were held in the Stake tabernacle last Friday afternoon, conducted by Bishop . James McArthur. The stand was appropriately decorated and there were seme beautiful flowers. The speakers were Elders Wayne Gardner, James McArthur and W. O. Bentley. Musical numbers were a vocal quartet, "Lead Me Gentley Home." violin solo by Wesley Pearce. vocal quartet. "I Need Thee Every Hour," vocal solo by Sister Mamie Paxman " The Perfect Prayer," and a vocal trio, "Whispering Hope." Opening prayer was by Elder Vernon Worthen; benediction by Elder H. T. Atkin. Elde'r Gardner spoke of the sadness when friends are called away. Had known Paul ever since they were boys in the district school. Spoke of the certainty and glory of the resurrection. resurrec-tion. Elder McArthur spoke of the pleasure pleas-ure he felt to know that although away from home this boy was going straight. Regretted that we were not able to find work for our boys at home. Elder Bentley felt that this sad occasion oc-casion was another reminder that the boys who leave home, are our representatives, repre-sentatives, and a great responsibility rests upon us. He rejoiced that Paul had such a splendid record. The fact that he worked for the one firm for two years and that many of his associates came to view the remains spoke well of the esteem in which he was held. Prayed that the sorrowing family would turn to God for comfort. com-fort. Bishop Wilford McArthur thanked all who had assisted the family in their sorrow. Interment was made in the city cemetery. Paul L. Whipple was born in St. George March 4, 19 01, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Whipple. About two years ago he went to Los Angeles and worked steadily for one firm during the. whole time he was there. ' He was well liked and respected by his many friends here and his untimely passing was a s-hock to them as well as his relatives. He was driving a car at 2.30 a. m. Sunday, Nov. 29, when it ran off the road crashing through a cable and falling 75 feet, Paul being instantly killed. There was a station near, and a woman heard the crash, ran to the place and found Paul dead. The remain were brough home by Alick Whipple, an elder brother, Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Blake and McMurrin Wulfenslen. |
