Lake I'ity has been encased by the KiH'd Motor Company to succeed the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for one week, September 111 and 16. inclusive, as the principal musical attraction of Kurd Symphony Sym-phony Hardens, one t the features fea-tures of the Ford Kxposition at A Century of I'liitress in Chicago. Chi-cago. Tho announcement comes as the result of negotiations begun several weeks ajto between officials of-ficials of the Ford Exposition in Chicago and Bishop David A. mith, President of the Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir. Terms of the 1 agreement were not announced. but it is understood that the ' figure reached in the negotiations ! guarantees .expenses of the luiio ' mile journey for the group of ! 250 singers, and makes possible I the tinst appearance of the choir I i" Chicago and the middle west ' in forty-one years. 1 The selection of the Tabernacle Choir by the Ford Kxposition management as first successor to j the Detroit Symphony may be interpreted as a high compliment to the musical and cultural life cf I'tah and the far west. Despite De-spite the fact that many other similar organizations could have been found much nearer Chicago, and therefore could have been engaged at much lower expense. Ford officials decided that only a truly outstanding choir could be presented without loss of the prestige built up by the brilliant symphony scries. In their opinion. opin-ion. th Utah chcir met this requirement re-quirement more satisfactorily than any other available organization. organi-zation. j During the week of its stay !n ChifTci, Mi p'mir under the direction of its veteran conductor, con-ductor, Anthony C. Lund, wiil present fourteen one-hour concerts con-certs from 2 : 3 .J to 3:3v Chicago Daylight Savings Time, in the afternoon, af-ternoon, and from S:30 to 9:30 in the evenings. (12:30 to 1:30 and 6:30 to 7:30 Rocky Mountain Moun-tain Standard Time). iAt least several of the programs pro-grams will be broadcast over a full network of the Columbia Broadcasting System, with KSL the probable Salt Lake City -outlet. |
