Show CROP SHOWS GAIN WITHjERHUZER Best Results Shown After First Year of Use; Average of 250 rounds Used Per Acre. The results of a survey made by County Agent Walter F. Smith on the use of treble superphosphate superphos-phate during the past two years, are as follows: The first year gives good response re-sponse on alfalfa hay varying from 33 to 100 per cent increase in-crease in yields. ' The application should he made in the winter or early spring before the frost is out of the ground. Some report a good response the second year after treatment, while others report a poor carryover carry-over effect. Some growers recommend 400 pounds per acre application and say it makes alfalfa more vigorous vig-orous and will kill out the red grass and also have the desired residual effect. The majority, however, use 250 pounds. Some use 12 5 pounds, but that is too light. In case of water shortage, plots that have been treated with phosphorous seem to burn out quickly. A few farmers report that their crops show no response to the use of fertilizer. There will be at least one carload car-load o fertilizer shipped into this county this winter. |
