Show URGES 0AM BE BUILT AT GLEN CANYON $30,000,000 Structure Would Enable En-able Utah to Receive Benefit Ben-efit of River Development. The Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday forwarded for-warded a request to William R. Wallace, chairman of the Utah water storage commission, to study the possibilities of building a government dam at Glen canyon can-yon on the Colorado river. It was pointed out by Gus P. Backman, secretary of the chamber, cham-ber, that the dam could irrigate thousands of acres of land in Kane and Washington counties, I the northern part of Arizona, and Clark county, Nevada. Mr. Backman made a report to the hoard of governors, who passed a resolution favoring the project. proj-ect. It is estimated the project would cost $50,000,000 and would enable Utah to receive some benefit from development I on the Colorado river. The preliminary pre-liminary work could be started during the years while the Hoover Hoo-ver dam is under construction and the work could be eonlin- ! ued after that dam is completed, he said. |
