Show jPIONEER PASSES AWAY AT NEWHARMONY New Harmony, Oct. 4. Orren Kelsey, early pioneer of southern Utah, passed away at his home in New Harmony, Sept. 2S, 1924. He was born at Union, Salt Lake County, Utah, now known as Sandy, in 1S52. He pioneered south in IS 60 with his parents and settled at the old Kelsey ranch six miles south of Harmony, where he lived until 1SS0. He was then called as a pioneer to help settle San Juan Co. He resided at Bluff City four years, then returned to New Harmony. He has lived in this vicinity ever since. He has lived a1 very useful life here, a carpenter and blacksmith by trade, there is not a home here but can show a specimen of his work along that line. He leaves a wife and three daughters. Namely, Lottie Taylor, Louisa Cox, and Josephine Hale, and an adopted son, Alvin F. Kelsey. He had 2 2 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was loved by all and will be missed by all who knew him. The cause of death was cancer of the stomach. Funeral Sei ices Funeral services over the remains of Brother Orren Kelsey were held in our ward meeting house, Sept. 30th, Bp. Henry A. Pace presiding. The speakers were Albert F. Mathis of this place, F. G. Pace and Wm. Palmer of Cedar City, Reese Williams, Wil-liams, Sr., and son, Bp. Reese I. Williams Wil-liams and John D. Williams o Kanarra, and Bp. Pace, all of whom spoke highly of the noble character of the deceased and words of encouragement en-couragement to the bereaved widow and children. Brother Kelsey was loved and esteemed by all and was considered to be one of the best men that has ever lived in our town. Wm. Palmer of the Stake Presidency Presid-ency and J. Reese I. Williams, Wil-liams, Mr. and Mrs. Reese Williams, Sr., and John D. Williajra, all of Kanarra; Mrs. Mary Spencer and Mrs. May Cox of Cedar City were present at the funeral. |
