Show ww. otiii:k i holds ke.u.ly gkkkxkh? Since tlie beginning of time it lias been an unsettled question ii.i to whether other fields are greener than our own, and in npite of all experience to the contrary, it seems to be human nature to look with longing eyes to oilier pastures. Illustrative of this fact we find that every once in a while wo hear some citizen boas-ting of the fact that he or she has purchased pur-chased a "real bargain" in the lino of furniture, plumbing equipment, equip-ment, stoves, machinery, or whatnot what-not by getting it "wholesale". In nino cases out of ten we may safely assume that the price paid is far above wholesale as merchants know the price and the consumer has only been kidded long into thinking he lias been given a substantial reduction. re-duction. As a general rule, price and quality are always closely related, re-lated, and only an inferior article arti-cle can be sold at a "bargain" price. Here again, we find that only a stranger will sell anything any-thing less than standard merchandise, mer-chandise, and yet many take a false prido in bragging that an article was bought at Salt Lake City or Los Angeles. But regardless of whether or not he has obtained his merchandise mer-chandise at reduced cost, such a customer has acted unfairly In going around the local retail dealer who is justly entitled to the business. These local merchants mer-chants pay a large percentage of our taxes and are themselves customers of many of the rest of us. Just imagine what a city we would have if all our local stores would cease to operate because too many of the residents were buying their goods at so-called wholesale or getting them from larger towns or cities where they had been induced to buy through the fallacy that they were offered better merchandise at less cost. St. George boasts stores that are a credit to the community in all lines of merchandise. There is very seldom any occasion occa-sion whatsoever for anybody to do their shopping in Salt Lake City, Los Angeles or with the mail order houses. Keep your money at home and some of it Is bound to come back, to you. If you send it away it is gone forever and does your own community, com-munity, your neighbors and your friends no good. We might add along this line that it is these same local merchants mer-chants who make it possible for you to have the quality news-Taper news-Taper which represents your communfty. Loyal merchants patronize pat-ronize your newspaper with advertising ad-vertising and you can do your part in encouraging this advertising adver-tising by watching the ads, and using them as your shopping guide. It will save you money and assure you getting quality merchandise at fair prices, for the merchant who is not afraid to advertise his prices is the one you want to patronize. An old proverb that would be well to recall when tempted by an outside "bargain" price is this: "There never was a product made, This truth you must confess, But someone else could make it worse, And sell his goods for less." |
