Show JAMES HOYT ! FAMILY ORGANIZED ALTON, Utah, July 1. The "James Hoyt Family Association" was organized organ-ized at Alton on June 28. when upwards up-wards of two hundred of the descendants descend-ants of James Hoyt assembled amid the pine clad hills of Kane county for a family reunion. Representatives of the family from Utah, Arizona. Idaho and Canada were in attendance. attend-ance. A constitution was adopted providing pro-viding for an annual membership meeting, and the following officers were elected: Timothy C. Hoyt of Snowflake, Ariz., president; W511 H. Hoyt, of Nephi, and Royal B. Mad-sen Mad-sen of Ephraim, vice-presidents; La-von La-von H. Johnson of Flagstaff, Arizona, Ari-zona, secretary; Dean H. V. Hoyt of Provo, treasurer. The association resolved re-solved to send one or more representatives repre-sentatives to the national meeting of the Hoyt family which is to be held at Detroit, Augusf 21 and 22, under the auspices of the Michigan State Hoyt Association, marking the tercentenary of the arrival in America Amer-ica of Simon Hoyt, ancestor of one of the two great divisions of the Hoyt family in America. Children and grandchildren of Israel Is-rael Hoyt, pioneer of Nephi and later of Kane county, were hosts to the assembled Hoyts. Breakfast was served serv-ed on the lawn at the home of Mrs. William Heaton and was followed by an organization and business meeting held in the Alton ward hall. In the afternoon a historical session ses-sion was held. Will L. Hoyt gave a brief history of the Hoyt family in America, tracing the genealogy of those present back to the Puritan ancestor, John Hoyt, who settled at Salisbury, Mass., in 1639. Redick N. Allred gave a brief sketch of the life of his mother, Lucy Hoyt Allred, daughter of James Hoyt, and a . pioneer of Spring City, Sanpete San-pete county. Amanda Hoyt Glover gave an outline of the life of her father, Israel Hoyt, one of the first settlers of Nephi and later a pioneer of Kane county. Mary Hoyt, sole surviving child of Timothy S. Hoyt, gave a short sketch of the life of her father, who was also one of the first settlers of Nephi. Ne-phi. The session was enlivened with musical selections and ' community singing under the leadership of Mrs. Will L. Hoyt, and included songs written for! the occasion by Mrs. Elsie C. Carroll and others. The reunion re-union ended with a dance in the evening at the Alton ward amusement amuse-ment hall. |
