Show IIIGinVAY JEALOUSIES (Las Vegas Age) r' seems a part of community or sectional policies to spread false reports regarding the condition of highway routes other than those tributary to the particular section sec-tion seeking to promote its own interests. For example, we are told that 'Reno and other cities oh the Lincoln Lin-coln and Victory highways across the northern part of the state, never fail to warn motorists against the imaginary dangers of the Arrowhead highway. They are aided and abetted in this policy by the San Francisco automobile clubs in their anxiety to divert all possible travel away from southern south-ern California. A map put out by San Francisco Fran-cisco agencies came in the hands of a Las Vegas motorist yesterday. yester-day. It said with regard to the Arrowhead highway, "Twenty miles of bad detour, conditions bad," and advised motorists to shun this .route. The same party was shown a map put out by the Missouri State Automobile association at St. Louis, which said it was practically suicide sui-cide for a motorist to attempt highway 91 (Arrowhead trail) and that there are several bad detours abnost impassable. This map was doutbless inspired by those desiring desir-ing to promote travel by the northern nor-thern routes. Both maps are entirely false in their statements. The facts are these: A section of twenty miles of the Arrowhead highway from Crystal to Mormon mesa is under construction con-struction and there is at present a detour of seven miles. This detour, de-tour, according to travelers who have just been over it is in fair shape and there is no trouble in traversing it at reasonable speed. The contractor on the job has a small tractor and two men at work on the detour at all times and is keeping it in as good condition con-dition las possible. Conditions on the Arrowhead highway are not in any respect different from those on the northern nor-thern routes. Wherever there is reconstruction re-construction work under way, and there are a number of such places on the Lincoln and Victory highways, high-ways, as well as on the Arrowhead highway, detours are necessary, notwithstanding the fact that tourists complain bitterly whenever when-ever they have to reduce speed to less -than 50 'miles an hour. The fact that ' travelers with average av-erage quality cars are regularly driving 300 miles a day and more over the Arrowhead route is the ."best evidence that -it is a-mighty good highway, well improved for almost its entire length and only a few minutes of detour required .. anywhere. . . . |
