Show HIGH EST POI N T IN ION 'S SCALED FOR FIRST TIM E On November 7 West Temple, the highest elevation in Zion National Na-tional Park was scaled for the first time when two Springdale boys. Norman and Newell Crawford, Craw-ford, successfully made the ascent as-cent and descent. West Temple rises to an elevation eleva-tion -ot 4,00 feet above the Virgin Vir-gin River at its base and is almost al-most completely girded with high vertical cliffs. The Crawford boys report that about four hours were taken for the climb and the return trip, was made In less than two hours. They stated that they eneounter-I eneounter-I ed several places where the climb I was both very difficult and dangerous, dang-erous, but even if they had found easy going all the way. the climb of 4.000 feet in four hours must have been considered fast going. ! On arrival at the top the boys built a smoke signal tire which was seen by seveia! Spr'.Mgdale j residents at about 2:00 p. in. |
