Flood waters of the i Mississippi river were pouring into J Hunger swamp through four crevasses j iu the lower Concordia parish levees I causing the backwater that already ! covered the territory to rise at almost an inch an hour. Hundreds of per-! per-! sons who have clung to their homes as j the Illack river slowly spread out over ; its basin were danger. I Crashing through about twenty-two miles below Vldalia at night, the river was roaring through a gap estimated to be liuO yards wide. The second crevasse occurred about one and a quarter miles south of the i Classcock slough. Waters rushed through the second crevasse between ! 4 and G o'clock Sunday morning and ! rapidly widened it to 1120 yards.
