Show CHANGE OF ROAD IS SOUGHT BMIRRICANE J. W. Imlay, David Hirschi, Chas. B. Petty, James Judd and N. Workman Work-man were a delegation representing the Zion Park Club and Hurricane Commercial club that met with the directors of St. George Commercial club Monday night to seek the cooperation coop-eration of the latter club in an endeavor en-deavor to have a change made in route of the Zion Park highway, to leave present route near Leeds, go through the Harrisburg gap and over Purgatory flat to a point west of Washington. The proposed road would go through Washington about two blocks south of tlie present road. John Wadsworth was elected chairman of the meeting and Chas. B. Petty, secretary. Hon. James Judd outlined the proposed pro-posed change and stated reasons therefore. He said the change would make the road from one-half to one mile longer, but that it would cut out steep grades, be straighter, and bring the road nearer to Hurricane. Hurri-cane. Discussion followed in the course of which it was pointed out that Washington would perhaps feel unfairly un-fairly treated if present route through the town was changed. However, it was pointed out that the change would be advantageous to Washington as it would remove a source of danger, in that the present road passes the school house. Other members of the visiting delegation stated that Hurricane is IS miles- from St. George, the county seat to reach which it was necessary to travel 3 3 miles. A road through Purgatory flat with a bridge across the river would place them about 19 miles from St. George. This, they realized, was unattainable at this time owing to lack of funds, but the proposed change would bring the road much nearer to them and they could ford the river a larger part of the year. A resolution offered by D. C. Watson Wat-son to the effect that the St. George Commercial club, the Zion Park Club, the Hurricane Commercial club and the county commissioners work together in trying to get the state road commissioners make the proposed change was unanimously carried, the committee to consist of the three members of the ;county board, Henry T. Akin, William Lund and James Judd; John N. Wads-worth Wads-worth and W. A. Whitehead, St. George Commercial club; Chas. B. Petty of the Zion Park Club, and David Hirschi of the Hurricane Commercial Com-mercial club. |
