Show HEAT KILLS FIVE EACH ARIZONA AND CALIFORNIA Needles, Cal., July IS. Five are dead in a terrific heat wave that has caused intense suffering for three days on the desert from Needles to Death valley. The dead are: Harry Scott of Detroit, died at Saratoga Springs, in Death valley. Miss Cecelia Itzin, Burington, Wis., head waitress at Harvey house at Needles. Andrew Brennau, Santa Fe railroad rail-road carpenter of Needles. Mrs. Idal of Needles. J. I. Sassett of Needles. Efforts were made to save the lives of Miss Itzin and Brennan by rushing rush-ing them out of Needles on a train. They died near Barstow. George Cornwall, Santa Fe express man, was placed on a train for San Francisco. His condition was serious. seri-ous. There were twelve other prostrations. prostra-tions. Temperatures at Needles were: Thursday, 125; Friday, 121; Saturday. Satur-day. 11S. The heat wave extends into northern north-ern Arizona. Yuma, Ariz., July IS. Two more deaths were added to the heat toll in Arizona today, making the total five this week. Mrs. Virginia Ball, negress, died on a passengertrain near the station of Aztec, after being overcome by the heat. John Herman, who. was prostrated by the heat yesterday, died at the county hospital last night. He was the fourth resident of Yuma to die from the heat this week. |
