V AND the Fort Duchesne soldiers met in another baseball game about a month later The story follows as it was printed In Inthe inthe inthe the Vernal Express on June 30 1906 BALL MEET TilE THE SOLDIERS will not bethe bethe be the guests of Vernal on our nations nation's natal day as the troops leave July 1 on their march to Fort Russell But the commanding coni- coni manding officer permitted them to come over last Saturday and meet the Vernal team on the diamond Monday afternoon The attendance was small owing to the lack of publicity given the gam game However it proved to be an interest interesting ing contest The umpires were Joseph Carroll and Will Vernon They TheN game was usually close though as usual the boys in blue succeeded in carrying o off the scalps of our local brav braves There were a number of ex excellent excellent ex ex- t hits good runs and some excellent field work TilE THE EXPRESS force is proud of the showing made by our printer Mr Hurt He proved to be a very good catcher catcher cat cat- cher and not such a slow bat bat- The Fort Duchesne boys showed better training than the Verna lites and consequently did some very creditable work Our only regret is that the match could not have b been en reserved for the Fourth of July TilE THE VERNAL team consisted con sided of the following members mem mm bers hers A A.
