Show SOLVING A GOVERNMENT MESS Once again a government attempted to achieve a worthy goal has deteriorated into an unholy mess The equal employ ti nt system devised to eliminate the vice of hiring discrimination on is uncoordinated chaotic and unnecessarily expensive Instead of having one central agency which would handle complaints there are three the Equal Employment Opportunity Opportunity unity u- u Commission E EEOC qC and state and municipal anti anti- discrimination agencies In addition an individual may choose to bring suit und 1866 Civil l Rights Act and he may also be entitled to make is charge the subject of a grievance and proceed to arbitration n under a un union on contract Then if a complainant loses in these forums he hc may start over again and file his charges in another Conceivably he could file the same charge five times The result is expensive waste and duplicated effort on onie It the e part of the employer who must give the same information yer and over again to different investigative agencies and co courts and on the part of gover government ment agencies Its It's taxpayers' taxpayers m money pey that finances these multiple investigations of the same charges The most obvious way to eliminate this duplication i is to designate one forum to handle all complaints Unfortunately ely elythe the EEOC seemingly the natural choice has proven itself n in- n- n able to handle the job Delays and complaints booby trap every y ry step of the agency's procedure denying speedy justice to the e complainant and the company charged with the violation Currently Currently Cur Gur- the EEOC has a backlog of more mor than cases It would be better to eliminate all of these forums andes andl's andl es establish s- s a new branch of the federal court system with throughout the country who could handle these cases cases' sp speedily dily and handedly even as they should be n II |
